Results, Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2012 - The stars of the Swiss wine world are named!

BERN, SWITZERLAND – (drinks media wire) – The suspense is over for the 2012 Grand Prix du Vin Suisse: during the Gala event this evening in Bern the winners were unveiled to some 350 guests from the worlds of Swiss wines and politics. In addition to the 12 categories’ winners, 3 special prizes were awarded:
- Claudio Tamborini from canton Ticino was named the Swiss Winemaker of the Year 2012
- Domaine de Miolan in Choulex, canton Geneva, won the Prix Bio (organic wines) for its Gamaret 2011
- Cave du Crêtacombe in Chamoson, canton Valais won the Prix Vinissimo for its Johannisberg 2011, matured in amphores.
The evening event, organized jointly by the Vinea Association and the wine revue Vinum has become one of the high points of the Swiss wine year, eagerly anticipated.

Nearly 3,000 wines from more than 600 wine producers were entered in this year’s competition, from all corners of Switzerland. The strong participation is a clear sign that the competition has become a reference, for producers themselves, but also the media and consumers. The wines are organized by 12 categories, by grape variety or type of vinification, such as rosé, sweet or sparkling. The top 6 wines in each category are named finalists for the Gala event, but ony the top 3 are awarded medals.

The Swiss Winemaker of the Year – Prix Bio – Prix Vinissimo

The Swiss Winemaker of the Year is awarded to the producer who obtains the highest overall number of points during the competition. This year’s award goes to Claudio Tamborini from Lamone in Ticino. This well-known wine producer was also awarded two other first places prizes, for his Merlot and for wines with residual sugar.

Domaine de Miolan in Choulex, canton Geneva, won the Prix Bio for its Gamaret 2011, which won the most points among organic wines.

The Prix Vinissimo goes to the wine that has the highest overall number of points at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse and this year it is awarded to Cave Crêtacombe in Chamoson for its 2011 Johannisberg, matured in amphores.

The iPhone application created by Vinea is free of charge and designed for newcomers to wine as well as professionals. It contains a wealth of information about Swiss wines, starting with the 2012 winners of the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse awards named Tuesday evening. Portraits of 450 of the country’s best wine producers are at the heart of the guide, with geo maps for their wineries. It includes popular iPhone application options such as sharing on social networks and creating favorites. Available in English, French and German.
The 2012 application for iPhone is produced with support from the Swiss Confederation. An Android version is planned for 2013.
The Vinea Association has developed this tool in partnership with agency Bread and Butter from Lausanne, specialists in digital books, and with authors Emeline Zufferey for the French texts, Eva Zwahlen for German and with Ellen Wallace, responsible for the English version.
