Infos SociétéGlaxoSmithKline's Neale takes over Presidency of European Beverages Association
Graham Neale, General Manager and Vice President, Nutritional Healthcare at GlaxoSmithKline Europe, has been elected the President of UNESDA, the Union of European Beverages Associations, which represents the non-alcoholic drinks industry in Europe.
Neale succeeds Ms Dominique Reiniche, President of Coca-Cola European Union Group, in the role and is appointed for two years. He is also currently President of the British Soft Drinks Association, BDSA.
Under Mrs Reiniche's two-year Presidency UNESDA has launched a series of commitments to the EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health in Brussels. They include No targeting of marketing communications to children under 12; No vending in primary schools and the provision of products, choice and portion size in the market. The European Commissioner for Health, Markos Kyprianou, has publicly 'named and praised' UNESDA for its commitments.
Ending her Presidency Mrs Reiniche commented, "UNESDA has communicated more effectively the broad variety of drinks it offers and made tangible and verifiable commitments to the EU Platform - and we have done so in a true partnership with our stakeholders."
Taking over his role Graham Neale said, "I have two key objectives for the next two years. Firstly, I shall be seeking to further build the reputation of the industry through driving the responsibility agenda with a new focus on sustainability and the environment. Action now is better than regulation later.
"Secondly, having been the President of the BSDA, I am acutely aware of the differing needs of companies and industry associations. I want to ensure we deliver to both agendas and will be working closely with the UNESDA team to use my experience from the BSDA."
UNESDA is based in Brussels and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
