(Drinks Media Wire). At the occasion of the "Annual Wines of Argentina Tasting" witch will take place at Lord's Cricket Ground on 17th September, François Lurton restructure his offer by giving a greater visibility to his Argentinean wines.
François Lurton and his brother first began working with Argentina in 1992.
As of their very first trip there, they were amazed by the winegrowing potential of the Mendoza region.
After conducting a number of winemaking trials and exploring the terroirs in depth, they decided to establish their own winery there. They launched a major investment plan that came to fruition in 1996 with the purchase of their first plot set at an altitude of 1100 metres in Vista Flores.
The terrain they selected in the high Uco Valley was desolate. No one had yet planted vines in this part of the valley.
Over time, Jacques and François created a large range of evermore sophisticated wines. These true terroir wines have found their identity through the name Lurton.
François now owns 250 hectares of land, of which almost 200 ha is under cultivation, and produces over 20 wines, all highly original and with a style of their very own.
François is by no means breaking with the past, the wines produced since the beginning of this venture are still selling well, but the philosophy behind them has changed.
It is for this reason that one signature alone could no longer suffice and we are now launching
TIERRA DE LUNA by François Lurton
This new signature is divided into two levels:
1/ The “classic” blend wines
Tierra de Luna red: Malbec - Bonarda
Tierra de Luna white: Chardonnay - Torrontes
Tierra de Luna red: Malbec - Bonarda - Syrah
2/ The “Alta Colección” varietal wines
In red: a Malbec, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Bonarda
In white: the indispensable Torrontes and a Chardonnay
And a very nice rosé: Malbec, Bonarda, Syrah
The new design for our range of varietal wines was created by the London agency Stranger & Stranger. It is both modern and more “Argentine”, mirroring François Lurton’s work, which consists in producing wines that truly express the local terroir.
“We try to be forever creative and dynamic and want the packaging to evolve, modernising it and making it more elegant, at the same time as highlighting the wine’s origin and distinctiveness. We chose a Hispanic name ‘Tierra de Luna’ to convey this message which evokes the appropriate colour of the volcanic ground of our property, removing any confusion created by the former name, ‘Land of Fire’, which did not necessarily reflect the wine’s Argentine origin.”
