(Drinks Media Wire). The 16th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is set to kick off in just a few days. No fewer than 6,289 wines and alcohols produced in 54 countries will take part in this genuine “world championship” of wines. Valencia, Spain, will play host to the competition.
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2009 will take place April 25-27 at the Feria de Valencia.
54 wine-producing countries will compete this year. This is a new record, which justifies more than ever the title “Concours Mondial”, or Global Competition. Egypt, Cyprus, Cuba and South Korea are among the new countries represented this year.
As far as trends go, France and Spain are consolidating their leading position, with the Latin American countries confirming their rising stars status and Australia putting forward its first wine… in a can!

The jury called to taste the 6,289 wines and spirits in competition will also be of international scope, with 41 countries represented, from South Africa to Venezuela to India. Experience and professionalism will be the words of the day.
The contingent with the strongest presence will yet again be the journalists, including best-seller authors, bloggers very much in the public eye or those in charge of the wine chronicles of large newspapers.
Tasting at their sides will be some of the best oenologists, wine waiters, importers and buyers on the global wine growing scene. Together they will put their knowledge and senses at the service of the consumer of quality wines.
