Inspired by Carlo Rossi's simple and straightforward approach to making and bottling wine, Seattle artist Jay Blazek used empty Carlo Rossi jugs to create six original works of furniture art. The collection will be on display in Seattle during the month of July and touring through Minneapolis in August, Boston in September, and Austin in November. The collection of distinctive furniture pieces carries a straight-up approach that can be appreciated for its stylish, no-nonsense and authentic design.
Created primarily from empty Carlo Rossi wine jugs, these original works of art include the Chardonnay Chandelier, the Sangria Surround Sound Speaker System, the Cabernet Couch and three other one-of-a-kind pieces for the home. To check out the complete Jug Simple(TM) Furniture Collection and learn how each piece was made, watch the videos at www.CarloRossi.com.
"Unchanged for decades, the Carlo Rossi jug itself is simple in design, with practical elements like a screw cap and a glass ring handle. It's genius, really. Right away we realized that there were so many possibilities, so many ways of inventing something new and fresh from this iconoclastic form," Blazek explained. "Using empty jugs, an open mind and a little vision, we were able to give a second life to a few jugs that we just couldn't bring ourselves to part ways with."
The Carlo Rossi team developed Jug Simple(TM) in part to commemorate the label's namesake and founder. Carlo's uncomplicated approach to life has become lovingly referred to as the "Art of Simplism." It's that approach to life and winemaking that inspired the brand's great-tasting wine, and it's that same approach that has inspired Jug Simple(TM). The entire collection of furniture art pieces will travel the country this summer, giving scores of Rossi lovers a firsthand look at Blazek's creations. Seattle's Capitol Hill Block Party is the starting point for the tour because it exemplifies creativity and individualism. The furniture will also be featured at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, the Boston Tattoo Convention and the Austin Stitch Fashion Show & Guerilla Craft Fair.
"Carlo would be delighted knowing that a new generation of wine drinkers is carrying on the tradition," said Pete Brennan, Carlo Rossi's marketing manager. "The Jug Simple Furniture collection is a celebration of individualism, authenticity and creativity. As the collection makes it across the country, we look forward to meeting others that share in our philosophy - a simple straightforward approach to wine and life."
After each event, one piece from the collection will be auctioned off to support an element of the local culture, including local bands, fashion designers and artists.
