(Drinks Media Wire). NY Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes was presented with a copy of a motion passed by British Parliament honoring his achievement as the first Scottish-born football player to win a Super Bowl at a reception co-hosted by the Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) and the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) at the British Consul General’s residence.
In the motion, Parliament cited Tynes as a role model for young people in both the U.S. and the U.K., and credited him with helping to popularize the National Football League in the U.K.
Tynes, in accepting the honor from Diageo Executive Vice President Guy Smith (on behalf of the American industry) and SWA Chief Executive Gavin Hewitt, said he was thrilled to receive the recognition. Noting that he was wearing a kilt, Tynes joked: “Pictures from the waist up only. I’m a kicker and I get a lot of scrutiny as it is.”
The reception featured Super Premium Scotch Whiskies, which thrilled attendees, from six joint members of DISCUS and SWA, including: Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Beam Global, Bacardi, Remy Cointreau, and Moet Hennessy.
The text of the motion passed by Parliament appears below:
Early Day Motion #1111
