(Drinks Media Wire). Representing the interests of UK food and drink manufacturers, the Food and Drink Federation1 has organised a series of fringe events at the 2010 Conservative Party Conference (Birmingham – Sunday 03 October to Wednesday 06 October) to highlight some of the core issues that are critical to the ongoing success of Britain’s food and drink industry.
The UK’s food and drink manufacturing sector directly employs 440,000 people, generates £73bn of turnover and value added of £21.6bn and accounts for 15% of manufacturing output, making it a sector crucial to Britain’s economic recovery. A number of high profile parliamentarians, stakeholders and industry representatives will debate a range of subjects at the fringe meetings including the Government’s role in working collaboratively with industry. Speakers including James Paice MP, Minister for Agriculture and Food and John Stevenson MP, Chair of the All-Party Group for Food and Drink Manufacturing, will take part in a debate entitled ‘Healthy and Sustainable Food: Can the right balance be struck?’
Julian Hunt, FDF’s Director of Communications, said: “Through these events we hope to deliver our key messages about the importance of the food and drink industry and the need for it to be positioned at the heart of the new Government’s economic thinking.”
