Association de la Sommellerie Internationale Harmonizing the level of the sommeliers all over the world
(Drinks Media Wire). The key project, presented at the latest General Assembly of A.S.I. during VINEXPO, relates to the level of the sommeliers worldwide.
It was indeed one of the main points on Shinya Tasaki’s, Best Sommelier of the World in 1995, program as a candidate for the presidency of A.S.I. Tasaki was elected as president in November 2010.
Thus a special “Examination Committee” was created with an important mission: to establish a certification exam ensuring the harmonization of the level of the sommeliers first in the 55 member countries of A.S.I. and then all over the world.
The training will be facilitated by the E-Learning program, on the new A.S.I. website (should there be a link to the website here?) and the exams will be organized in several countries from 2012.
The General Assembly and the meeting of the Administrative Council of A.S.I. showed a real revival spirit. Shinya Tasaki’s presidency, with a three year mandate, is very focused on dynamism and efficiency. The sommeliers of the 21st century, have, through their profession, the responsibility of promoting the art of drinking and of a certain art of living. The profession needs to evolve and show the sommeliers’ expertise in the field of gastronomy and tourism all over the world.
That is one of the goals that the A.S.I., managed by four Best Sommeliers of the World, want to perform, also with the help of a fantastic means : the competitions !

- A.S.I. Contest of the Best Sommelier of the World, March 2013, Japan,

These competitions offer many opportunities to meet the sommeliers from all over the world !
