Company NewsSouth African Wine: Trio Of Gold Medals For Du Toitskloof Wines
(drinks media wire) - Du Toitskloof Wines received a trio of gold awards at the 2011 Michelangelo International Wine Awards for its 2011 Beaukett, its 2010 Hanepoort Jerepigo and its 2008 Reserve Range Chardonnay Viognier blend.
The competition, now in its 15th year, is judged by a leading panel of international judges, representing some of the best palettes in the world. And these leading experts make according to chief winemaker Shawn Thomson, these awards all the more rewarding.
“Du Toitskloof Wines always pride itself on offering exceptional value for money and by competing against the best wines in South Africa, we prove yet again the quality found in each bottle we produce.
“Where we are located in the Breede River Valley is ideally suited to grape growing with the close proximity of the Du Toitskloof mountains offering shade in the summer months. This coupled with sparse summer rain the vineyards produces healthy, flavourful grapes.”
Located at the entrance to the famous Du Toitskloof Pass with its spectacular scenery, the cellar has built up a reputation for excellent quality at highly competitive prices. It was established by six wine farmers as a co-operative winery in 1962. Today it has 22 members, many of them second-generation descendants of the founders. They all live in a close-knit community within a radius of 10 km from the cellar and all take a close interest in its activities.
The 2011 Du Toitskloof Beaukett and 2010 Hanepoort Jerepigo are available at leading liquor outlets for about R27 and R43 respectively. The 2008 Reserve Range Chardonnay Viognier is available in limited quantities from the cellar at R51 per bottle.
